Say hello to the new Epson SureColor SC-P20500 wide-format printer!

One of the star attractions of the recent Drupa Exhibition in Dusseldorf was the brand new large format SC-P20500 printer from Epson, the leader in inkjet wide format technology. Although not due for launch until later this year, we’ve looked at all the current information to bring you the key features of this exciting new printer, the evolution of the much loved Epson SC-P20000. Aimed at the high-quality photo print, fine art, poster and indoor signage markets, the Epson SC-P20500 offers several exciting advances from its predecessor.

Print Quality, Productivity and Cost Savings!
The SC-P20500 utilises the UltraChrome Pro12 ink set, the same inks used in the Epson SC-P9500/7500 printers, giving you the consistency of colour if you were to replace or add to your current Epson printer portfolio.
The previous dark grey ink has been replaced and orange, green and violet inks have been added to create a 12-colour printer, which gives you greater flexibility, a wider colour gamut and deeper blacks via a ‘black enhanced overcoat’. Despite adding more colours, there is virtually no loss of print speed over its predecessor.
The biggest change in this area is the adoption of a 1.6L bulk ink system. Not only is this a step forward from an environmental standpoint, but it also reduces the number of ink change interventions you will need to make, with the new bulk packs having approximately 2.3x the capacity of the 700ml ink cartridges previously used.
The new Epson SC-P20500 will be approximately 19% cheaper on ink than the SC-P20000 or P9500/7500 printers. Yes, a whopping 19%!
Usability and Reliability
The SC-P20500 boasts faster data processing than the SC-P20000, giving you a faster first print, whilst its 960GB memory storage capacity offers you the ability to reprint jobs directly from the enlarged 4.3-inch display panel without the need to refer to a PC.
Spindle-less paper loading has been carried over, so the benefits of quicker paper loading over its equivalent competitors remain.
Self-maintenance has been improved by adding a dust cover (which can be opened for printing on cut sheets) while lighting around the printheads allows for quicker and safer cleaning. An anti-drying cap prevents ink on the print heads from solidifying when not in use.
In Summary
Epson has been extremely clever in retaining many of the most loved features of the SC-P20000 whilst utilising their technologically advanced expertise to add enhancements that will improve the ease and speed of operation and bring financial benefits.
Epson has also pushed forward on its core objective of making environmentally conscious improvements wherever possible.

As Head of Commercial and Industrial Sales for Epson, Phil McMullin states,
“The launch of the SC-P20500 is a significant step forward, building on the strengths of the SC-P20000, and offers the market a highly cost-effective printer that delivers outstanding quality, reliability and productivity.”
