KENRO mounting a challenge to be the best frame supplier in the UK
1973 AND A NEW FACE APPEARS IN THE WORLD OF PHOTOGRAPHIC SUPPLIES
It’s the early 70’s. The swinging 60’s are disappearing into the midst of time and the new decade is now firmly finding its feet. New Faces is one of the new wave of TV shows making its debut, alongside Kojak, Some Mother’s Do ‘Ave ‘Em and Last of the Summer Wine.
In other news, the Sydney Opera House opens, as does the World Trade Centre in New York whilst the UK joins the European Union and Pink Floyd release the Dark Side of the Moon.
Meanwhile, slightly overshadowed by these events, in a quiet corner of the Cotsworlds Kenro is established with the aim of offering a broad range of photographic and audio visual products.
Two years later, the first Kenro Catalogue is published with the main focus on photo and slide storage solutions.
MID 80’S SEES A STEP CHANGE
Photokina, widely recognised as Europe’s most important photographic trade show, opened to an expectant public in Cologne, 1950.
Initially established as a showcase for the German trade, it quickly opened its arms to the rest of Europe and the rest of the world was starting to take notice too. In fact US President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a good luck telegram to the organisers as the 1956 show opened its doors.
Photokina expanded to become an internationally recognised show and to coin a phrase, if your brand wasn’t there it was nowhere. In 1986, Kenro successfully made its Photokina debut and later that same year moved to larger premises in order to faciliotate their planned growth.
GROWING PREMISES, GROWING MARKETS
In 1988 Kenro purchased their first site, giving them the opportunity to establish a purpose built warehouse and office complex.
Increased warehouse capacity and the freedom to grow in their own premises enables Kenro to implement their next strategic step which is to commence manufacturing of their own photo and storage materials and associated products. This was followed in 1997 by Kenro starting to distribute Photo Frames and Albums in the UK. Such was the success that additional warehousing space was required just two years later.
A NEW CENTURY AND NEW HORIZONS
As the new millenium appeared over the horizon, Kenro now had their key managerial team in place and the decision to establish the name further was realised by the first containers of Kenro design photo albums, frames and accessories arriving from Korea and Hong Kong.
Taking control of their own design and procurement processes enabled Kenro to adapt to consumer trends and become a leader in the UK framing market. They were also able to broaden their distribution product ranges, starting with the acquisition of the UK licence for Nissin camera flash products.
These days, as the procurement and manufacturing of products overseas has become more restricted and subject to red tape and tariffs, Kenro concentrates on the distribution of its core products across a broad range of photography associated products with photo frames and photo albums very much central to its identity. Dupli is proud to be part of the Kenro story as a key component in their distribution chain.
