CineStill DF96 Developer and Fix B&W Monobath Powder is an all-in-one, single-step black and white developing and fixing chemical that eliminates the need for stop bath or separate fixers. Made for simplicity, processing film in any standard tank in just 3 to 6 minutes.

Key Highlights

  • Simple: No timers, apps, or strict charts needed. It's almost impossible to overdevelop.
  • Reusable: One bottle (1 litre) can process 16+ rolls of film (up to 8 at a time).
  • Fast: Processes film in just 3 to 6 minutes.
  • Safe & Clean: Odor-free and fully archival (your negatives will last).

How to Use It (The Basics)

  • You can use this at normal room temperature between 68°F and 82°F (20°C–28°C).
  • Pour the solution into your processing tank with the film.
  • Agitate (shake/invert) the tank.
  • Wait 3 to 6 minutes (at 80°F/27°C, it takes just 3 minutes).
  • Pour the liquid back into its bottle to reuse later.
  • Wash the film with water and hang it to dry.

Film Types & Tips

  • Standard B&W Films (Tri-X, HP5, BwXX): Work perfectly at their normal speeds.
  • Tabular Grain Films (T-Max): Take twice as long to process. They might look pink or purple when they come out, but this is normal and will fade.
  • High-Speed Films (P3200, Delta 3200): Shoot and process them at 1000–1600 ISO normally, or "push" them to 3200 using temperature.

Controlling Your Look (Temperature vs. Agitation)

Because this is a single solution, you control the contrast and grain of your photos using temperature and how much you shake the tank:

  • Want more contrast/grain (Pushing)? Raise the temperature above 82°F (28°C). Higher heat speeds up development.
  • Want less contrast (Pulling)? Lower the temperature below 68°F (20°C).
  • Want smoother results? Agitate (shake) the tank more. More shaking speeds up the fixing process, which naturally tames the development.
